Silicon is a traditional semiconductor material and is the dominant material in the transistor field. However, the industry agrees that the size of Silicon transistors cannot be further reduced in about 2020 and the chip's performance has been close to its physical limits. Hence, people always seek new materials which can replace the current silicon chip. CNT is one of the main research directions.
Currently, some scientists have successfully fabricated the chip's core component - the transistor, with new material CNT. Its working speed is 3 times that of the most advanced commercial silicon transistor, but its energy consumption is only one fourth of the latter. Other researchers have explored and developed the stretchable film transistor based on the CNT materials. This transistor has excellent mechanical and electrical properties.
